โ Dangerous driving cases captured on SRIS cameras advance through the courts
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has reported that, utilising footage from the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS), hundreds of dangerous driving have been detected and advanced through the judicial process. The SRIS continues to support evidence-based enforcement by identifying dangerous driving behaviour and advancing matters through the courts.
A dangerous driving offence occurs when a motorist operates a motor vehicle in a manner that endangers the public, other road users, or property. This behaviour poses serious safety risks, disrupts traffic order, and increases the likelihood of avoidable collisions.
The Police have advised that these violations are not ticketable offences and must be heard before a magistrate. Each incident captured by SRIS cameras is individually reviewed by trained police personnel, with evidence carefully analysed, compiled, and formally presented before the court.
To date, one hundred fifteen (115) cases have already been processed in court, resulting in fines and, in some instances, suspension of driversโ licences. The remaining matters are currently at various stages of review and prosecution.
The Guyana Police Force has indicated that it is strengthening its prosecutorial capacity to ensure faster preparation and advancement of SRIS-related matters as enforcement continues to expand nationwide.
When drivers are located, officers utilise electronic tablets to present recorded footage of the infraction as part of the verification and charge preparation process prior to court proceedings.
Recently the following drivers appeared before the Sparendaam and Georgetown Magistratesโ Court in relation to dangerous driving offences:
Kwande Pellew, driver of Motor Vehicle BXX 6175, was charged with Dangerous Driving and fined $50,000.
Wahid Prasad, driver of Motor vehicle BAB 3610, was charged with Dangerous Driving and fined $40,000.
Narendra Persaud, driver of Motor Vehicle BZZ 9177, was charged with Dangerous Driving and fined $50,000.
Brandt Ally, driver of Motor Vehicle BAJ 9917, was charged with Dangerous Driving and fined $25,000.
Kimeon Brandford-Williams, driver of Motor Vehicle BAG 8728, was charged with Dangerous Driving and fined $40,000.
The Guyana Police Force reiterated that dangerous driving puts lives at risk and will be met with firm action. Motorists are urged to obey traffic laws, respect lane discipline, and recognise that offences detected through SRIS will be pursued through the judicial process.
The SRIS forms part of a broader national initiative led by the Government of Guyana and the National Data Management Authority (NDMA) to modernise traffic management using data-driven enforcement systems aimed at reducing collisions and saving lives.
