177 lbs of Marijuana Seized in Uitvlugt; 19-Year-Old Washbay Owner in Custody
Police ranks from Regional Division #3 carried out an intelligence-led operation today between 10:30 and 14:15 hrs at Lot 569 Uitvlugt Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara.
During the exercise, ranks observed a grey Premio motor car, bearing registration number PAG 2273, parked near DC Auto Span (washbay). Contact was made with the washbay’s owner, 19-year-old Mark Asam of Uitvlugt. A search of his person turned up nothing illegal.
The vehicle was later taken to the Leonora Police Station, where a detailed inspection revealed one orange bag, one multi-coloured bag, and two white bags inside the trunk—all containing parcels of marijuana.
The narcotics, when weighed in the presence of the suspect, amounted to 177.675 pounds. Asam was cautioned, arrested, and remains in custody at the Leonora Police Station as charges are being processed. Both the vehicle and the seized drugs have been lodged.
