$41.8B for GDF, $10.4B for Office of President among approvals as Budget 2026 estimates examined
The Committee of Supply on Monday approved a series of allocations for constitutional agencies, governance bodies and national institutions as part of the ongoing consideration of the 2026 national budget estimates.
Among the largest sums approved was $41.8 billion for the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and $10.4 billion for the Office of the President, while billions more were set aside for the judiciary, Parliament and oversight agencies.
The allocations were largely piloted by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira, with the $1.9 billion for the Ministry of Legal Affairs piloted by Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall.
Under the constitutional and oversight agencies, the Committee of Supply approved $28 million for the Judicial Service Commission, $220.5 million for the Teaching Service Commission, $357.3 million for the Public and Police Service Commissions, $214.1 million for the Rights Commissions of Guyana, $323 million for the Ethnic Relations Commission, $87.4 million for the Public Service Appellate Tribunal, $82.9 million for the Office of the Ombudsman and $266 million for the Public Procurement Commission.
Funding was also approved for governance and legal institutions, including $2.3 billion for the Parliament Office, $675.8 million for the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, $1.9 billion for the Ministry of Legal Affairs, $662.5 million for Public Prosecutions, $6.8 billion for the Supreme Court and $1.7 billion for the Audit Office of Guyana.
In addition to the GDF and Office of the President allocations, the Committee of Supply also approved $6.9 billion for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
