8-Year-Old Girl Killed in Parika Backdam Accident; Driver Tests Over the Legal Alcohol Limit
Police are investigating a tragic accident that claimed the life of 8-year-old Supriya Khan of Naamryck Koker, East Bank Essequibo. The fatal crash occurred around 3:05 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, along the Parika Backdam main access road, East Bank Essequibo.
The accident involved Motor Pick-Up GAB 8162, driven by 22-year-old Arif Alli of Parika, and an electric cycle operated by 32-year-old Imran Khan of Naamryck Koker, on which young Supriya was a pillion rider.
According to preliminary investigations, the electric cycle was heading east when the pick-up, which was travelling in the same direction, attempted to overtake. During the manoeuvre, the pick-up collided with the cycle, causing both Imran and Supriya Khan to be thrown onto the roadway.
Supriya was picked up in an unconscious state by the pick-up driver and rushed to the De Kinderen Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Imran Khan was also taken to the facility and remains hospitalized with a fractured skull.
The child’s body was later taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Breathalyser tests conducted on driver Arif Alli revealed blood alcohol content (BAC) readings of 128% and 134%, both well above the legal limit.
Police investigations are ongoing.
