Members of Guyana’s Disciplined Services will head to the polls on August 22, 2025, 10 days ahead of the general population, as part of the General and Regional Elections process.

This early voting tradition allows security forces personnel to fulfill their electoral duty while ensuring their availability for critical security operations on Election Day, scheduled for September 1, 2025.

As per the Guyana Elections Commission’s (GECOM) established procedures, ballots cast by the Disciplined Services are not tallied separately.

Instead, they are sealed in tamper-proof containers and securely stored. On Election Day, these ballots are mixed with those of the general electorate before the official count begins.

In preparation for this process, Chief Election Officer Vishnu Persaud has appointed three ballot officers to oversee the voting across the security agencies.

The appointments, made in accordance with Section 65I (1)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, Cap. 1:03, were published in the Official Gazette on June 5, 2025.

The appointed officers are: Areana Britton, designated for the Guyana Defence Force, Sharon Jethu, appointed to the Guyana Police Force, and Sadhna Boodhanlall, assigned to the Guyana Prison Service.

GECOM has indicated that all logistical preparations are on track to ensure a smooth and secure voting process for these essential service members.
