Police in Berbice have released details into the death of 22-year-old Stacy Walton, the New Amsterdam businesswoman whose body was found after her car ended up in a trench along the No. 7 Public Road.
In a statement on Saturday, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that the incident occurred around 1:50 hours on Friday and involved motor car PAG 2279, which was owned by Alfred De Jonge and being driven by Walton at the time of the accident.
According to the report, Walton was reportedly drinking earlier in the evening before driving west along the southern drive lane of the No. 7 Public Road. Police said she was wearing her seatbelt when she lost control of the car, which careened into a trench and became partially submerged.
The vehicle was later spotted by members of the public, who pulled Walton, unconscious, from the car and rushed her to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty. Her body is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police said investigations are continuing.
