An armed security guard attached to Castle Security is now the prime suspect in a $13.1 million robbery at the Fantasy Game Lounge, located in Giftland Mall, Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The incident occurred at approximately 05:30 hours on Sunday. According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the 24-year-old Castle Security guard, whose name has not been released, was on duty at Fantasy Game Lounge when he allegedly drew his issued 9mm pistol, loaded with 17 rounds, and confronted two supervisors in the gaming area.

Twenty-one-year-old Raywat Sankar, the on-duty lounge supervisor, had stepped out of the cashier’s area to help a 27-year-old female floor supervisor clean the gaming floor, as there were no customers present.

The suspect reportedly approached them, produced his firearm, fired one warning shot into the air, and ordered Sankar to open the electronic door to the cashier’s room.

Sankar complied. Once inside the secured area, the guard instructed both supervisors to enter the cashier’s room and ordered Sankar to open the vault. He then forced Sankar to transfer all cash, totaling $13.1 million into a garbage basket. The suspect exited the building with the stolen funds.

Mall CCTV footage captured the guard leaving via the Giftland access road, heading west along the Railway Embankment. He is seen stopping a motorcar bearing registration PZZ 5690, which then sped away westward.

Detectives processed the scene and recovered one spent 9mm shell casing. A search of the suspect’s residence yielded no cash, and efforts to locate both the guard and the getaway vehicle are continuing.
