A woman named Nakisha Sinclair has publicly accused the Alliance For Change (AFC) and its leader, Nigel Hughes, of appropriating her work without permission, including an education reform plan she claims to have submitted in February.
In a detailed social media post accompanied by screenshots of WhatsApp conversations, Sinclair alleged that Hughes used her original ideas, layout, and even the title of a proposed education initiative without giving her credit or compensation.
“You admitted that it’s my work. So how could you try and intimidate me?” she wrote, referencing Hughes’ alleged response to her cease-and-desist letter. She claimed Hughes denied any formal agreement and accused her of attempted extortion.
The screenshots show a series of exchanges in which the woman reminds Hughes of a 40-minute phone call they had on February 25, during which she claims he expressed interest in her plan after she had shared it with an AFC member.
Following her submission, she later discovered that elements of her proposal, including formatting, thematic concepts, and policy framing, appeared in the AFC’s education and youth development platforms under a recycled programme name, “Future Forward.”
She stated that she had formally withdrawn her support and submitted a letter in March, explicitly revoking any permission to use her ideas. Yet, she alleges, Hughes and the AFC team continued to present components of her work as their own, including at public forums and on social media.
“What’s worse,” she continued, “you used my name and the layout. I asked you to do the right thing and compensate me for my work, and instead, you accused me of trying to extort your party because it’s election season?”
Adding fuel to the controversy, the woman pointed out Hughes’ recent public defence of another individual who claimed the government had used their ideas without acknowledgement.
“You had the nerve to stand up for someone else’s intellectual property but won’t do the same for me,” she wrote.
As of publication, neither Hughes nor the AFC has issued a public response to the allegations.
