The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has officially commenced training for Polling Day staff in preparation for the upcoming General and Regional Elections.

The ongoing training sessions aim to equip selected applicants with the knowledge and skills required to efficiently execute their responsibilities on election day.

Persons currently being trained include those shortlisted to serve as Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, Poll Clerks, and Ballot Clerks. According to the Commission, these sessions are guided by the Official Manual for Presiding Officers and Other Polling Day Officials, which outlines the legal and procedural requirements for the conduct of elections.

The manual, which is publicly available through GECOM’s Training Resource Hub at www.gecom.org.gy/public/home/resource_hub, serves as a critical reference for all trainees and stakeholders. GECOM is urging applicants and interested members of the public to access and familiarize themselves with the document.

Training for temporary Management Staff was completed earlier, with those applicants receiving advanced access to both updated manuals via email. The manuals revised in line with new statutory requirements introduced in December 2022 were prepared by the GECOM Secretariat and reviewed by Parliamentary Political Parties for feedback and transparency.

GECOM emphasised that all stakeholders, including political parties and civil society, are encouraged to consult the manuals to ensure a clear understanding of the electoral processes ahead.
