Two people are now homeless after a fire of unknown origin destroyed their house in Dukestown on Wednesday afternoon.
In an interview with reporters, Vishal Rameshwar, 39, a self-employed resident of Lot 151 Dukestown, Skeldon Berbice, explained that he was living on the property with his brother.
Rameshwar said he left home around 4:00 hours to cut grass and learned about the fire at approximately 17:20 hours. After receiving the shocking news, he rushed to investigate.
According to Rameshwar, when he arrived at the scene, the building was engulfed in flames. He said his brother was not at home when the fire started.
He mentioned that all of their belongings, including important documents, were destroyed in the fire. He mentioned that he had saved $20,000, which was also lost in the blaze.
The Corriverton Fire Station was alerted about the fire, and firefighters responded to the scene.
“I don’t know which part I will go because me na get nowhere else to go. Is one of me friends I sleep by last night. I glad if I can get assistance from the Government or somebody else,” he said.
