Crime sleuths in Region Three are probing the murder of an unidentified man of African descent, who was fatally stabbed on Wednesday evening at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
According to reports, the incident occurred around 18:00 hours when a 22-year-old bowman from Wales, West Bank Demerara (WBD), allegedly stabbed the victim.
A 56-year-old security guard stationed at the Vreed-en-Hoop boat house witnessed the aftermath at approximately 18:10 hours, observing the injured man sitting on a bench under a yellow stall, bleeding from multiple wounds on both sides of his upper body.
With the assistance of two other individuals, the injured man was placed into a vehicle and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Police photographed and examined the victim’s body, noting three stab wounds to the upper torso. The deceased has yet to be identified. His body was taken to Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The suspect was later found at the Georgetown Public Hospital with injuries to his left upper arm, left upper side, and back. When questioned, he claimed that the deceased had robbed him of money and attacked him with a knife, inflicting the wounds.
He stated that he disarmed the man and stabbed him in self-defence. The 22-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested and is in custody at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
