A U.S. Congressman has publicly accused Guyanese presidential hopeful Azruddin Mohamed of being a “pro-Maduro puppet,” warning of what he claims is a Venezuelan-backed attempt to interfere in Guyana’s upcoming elections.

“In the U.S. Congress, we are alarmed by the regime in Venezuela’s attempt to undermine Guyana through its pro-Maduro puppet candidate Azruddin Mohamed, who is sanctioned by OFAC,” Congressman Carlos Gimenez stated on X (formerly Twitter).

Mohamed, the presidential candidate for the recently launched We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, is listed among individuals sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

Mohamed entered politics shortly after the sanctions were imposed.

However, over the weekend, two of his uncles publicly criticized him, claiming he does not have the country’s best interest at heart but is instead driven by personal ambition.
