An 18-year-old man from Litchfield, West Coast Berbice, was killed while his younger brother narrowly escaped an attack by a group of men on Thursday night.

Dead: Jerry Gordon

The deceased, Jerry Gordon, resided at Lot 68 Litchfield, West Coast Berbice. His 16-year-old brother recounted to reporters that he was riding as a pillion passenger on his brother’s motorcycle as they were returning home after buying food from a shop.

The younger Gordon explained that a group of armed men confronted them at a location not far from their home.

“All I know is one of them ran across the road with a rope and struck my brother off the bike. We both fell off. When I turned back, I saw them running towards me. One had a cutlass and was coming after me, so I had to run. I ran to Litchfield, called my cousins, and it took a while before I went back to the scene,” he said.

Jerry was taken to Fort Wellington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The specific nature of his injuries is still unclear.

According to information gathered, the deceased had been involved in a fight with some of the men earlier this year. The matter was reported to the police and taken to court, where it was reportedly resolved.

An investigation into the attack is ongoing.
