An accident at about 18:50 hours on Saturday along the Good Hope Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD), has claimed the life of 43-year-old Kevindra Tularam of Lot 20 David Rose Scheme, Unity.
The fatal collision involved a stationary motor lorry, registration number GAF 4657, owned by a 44-year-old resident of Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), and driven by a 29-year-old truck driver from Tabatinga, Central Rupununi in Lethem, Region Nine. Tularam was driving motor vehicle PNN 6925 at the time of the crash.
Investigations revealed that the lorry was parked on the southern side of the Good Hope Railway Embankment road facing west, with hazard lights activated, as the driver investigated a noise coming from his vehicle.
After sending his porter to check the source of the sound, the driver suddenly felt a loud impact at the rear of his vehicle. Upon exiting, he discovered that Tularam’s vehicle had slammed into the back of the lorry.
Tularam sustained injuries in the collision and was assisted by public-spirited persons who placed him into a police vehicle and transported him to Enmore Regional Hospital. A doctor pronounced him dead on arrival. His body remains at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyser test conducted on the lorry driver showed no presence of alcohol. The driver remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
