The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is committed to ensuring a peaceful, secure, and democratic electoral process. This assurance was given by Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken while addressing the GPF’s 186th Anniversary Awards Ceremony on Friday.
“As we look to the horizon, the Guyana Police Force stands firmly anchored in progress, purpose, and preparedness; and with the upcoming General and Regional Elections, we are resolute in our commitment to ensure a peaceful, secure, and democratic electoral process,” he said.
According to Commissioner Hicken, the Force is focused on equipping its ranks with both the mindset and methods necessary to uphold the law while protecting the rights and freedoms of all Guyanese.
“Our preparations are grounded in strategy, guided by law, and executed with impartiality. We are enhancing operational readiness, strengthening intelligence cooperation, and ensuring that our police ranks are fully equipped, both in mindset and method, to uphold the law and protect the rights and freedoms of every citizen in Guyana.”
The Police ranks have already undergone a series of trainings in preparation for the upcoming General and Regional Elections scheduled for September 1, 2025.
Additionally, the United States (U.S.) will soon deploy a team of police trainers to support the GPF with election security. This training will follow a “train-the-trainers” model, enabling GPF officers to replicate the training throughout the wider force.
