During a recent gathering held in Berbice, where the new Police Headquarters in Region Six was officially commissioned, Deputy Commissioner of Police Errol Watts, who oversees operations within the police force, conveyed strong assurances that the Guyana Police Force is not only ready but also fully committed to ensuring that the electoral process unfolds smoothly and without any illegal activities or disturbances that could compromise the integrity of the election.

Watts emphasised that the police force is collaborating extensively with the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to establish practical measures and protocols to safeguard the electoral process.

“Anyone who violates the laws of Guyana concerning election offences will be dealt with,” he revealed.

Watts warned against any actions that could incite chaos, specifically addressing individuals who might consider igniting fires on roadways as a form of protest or disruption during the election period.

“Anyone who attempts to light any fire on the road, block street, or beat any other person within 200 yards of a polling station or any place, in any part of this country will be dealt with by the Guyana Police Force,” Watts declared.

He encouraged: “Vote, go home, and wait on the results.’’

Additionally, Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Robeson Benn, echoed these sentiments during the event, emphasising the collective desire for a peaceful atmosphere during the forthcoming electoral period.

“We want peace on Election Day. We don’t want trouble,” he affirmed.
