La Penitence Businessman Arrested with Firearm, Ammunition and Narcotics
Police have arrested 39-year-old businessman Franz Paul of Middle Road, La Penitence, after he was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and over two kilograms of cannabis.
According to reports, at about 18:32 hrs on Tuesday (September 9, 2025), ranks intercepted a black Honda Vezel (PAH 2167) driven by Paul along Vlissengen Road, near the Square of the Revolution.
A search revealed a .22 pistol with a magazine containing two live rounds in Paul’s pants pocket. When questioned, Paul admitted that he is not a licensed firearm holder.
Further checks of his vehicle uncovered a large garbage bag containing two bulky parcels wrapped with transparent tape. Inside were leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis, later weighed at 2,267 grams.
The firearm and ammunition were lodged for ballistic testing, while the suspected narcotics were secured as evidence. Paul was taken to the Ruimveldt Police Station, where the items and his vehicle were lodged.
He remains in custody as investigations continue and charges are expected to be laid.
