Leaders from Cuba, Montserrat, and France have extended congratulations to President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali on his re-election, expressing optimism about continued cooperation and stronger regional ties.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, in a post on X, wished Dr. Ali success in his new term and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
“I wish you success in your new term, while reaffirming my willingness to continue strengthening the relations of friendship and cooperation between our countries,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Montserrat’s Premier and Minister of Finance, Reuben Meade, commended Dr. Ali’s pledges of unity and inclusion during the elections, expressing hope for deeper collaboration at CARICOM and other regional forums.
They wrote, “Having keenly observed the recent general election, it was pleasing to hear your recommitment and some of your pledges to the people of your beloved nation of unity, inclusion and national transformation.”
France also issued a statement congratulating President Ali, noting that the September 1 elections were conducted in an “orderly, peaceful fashion” under GECOM’s leadership. The French government pledged to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with Guyana.
“As was noted by several electoral observation missions, including the EU Election Observation Mission, these elections took place in an orderly, peaceful fashion under the leadership of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), whose work we salute.
France will continue to actively pursue cooperation with the elected Guyanese government and welcomes the strengthening of its friendship with the people of Guyana and their representatives,” France said in a statement.
