Linden man sentenced to 12 years for rape of a child under 16
Gallard Gill, also known as “Daddy Boy,” a 28-year-old resident of Linden, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping a child under the age of 16.
Gill appeared before Justice Damone Younge at the Demerara High Court and admitted to the charge.
In determining the sentence, Justice Younge said the court considered the seriousness of the crime, including the victim’s age and the lasting impact the offence had had on the child and their family.
The judge explained that 18 years would have been the appropriate starting point; however, a one-third reduction was applied because of Gill’s early guilty plea.
Gill was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment and ordered to participate in all rehabilitation programmes offered by the prison during his incarceration.
Prosecutors Padma Dubraj, Simran Gajraj, and Geneva Wills represented the state, while defence attorney Tonza Sarrabo appeared on behalf of the convict.
