A security guard accused of fatally stabbing a colleague at the Guyana National Museum has been remanded to prison.

Last Tuesday, a 38-year-old Julian Anthony Lindore appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he was charged with the murder of 57-year-old Shawn Lovell.

Lindore was not required to enter a plea and is scheduled to return to court on September 24. The charge stems from a confrontation on Saturday night that ended in Lovell’s death.

According to investigators, Lovell, who lived at Campbellville Housing Scheme, Georgetown, and was attached to Atlas Security Service, had completed his shift at the museum around 17:40 hrs.

However, he returned shortly after to retrieve a cellphone he believed he had left behind.

An argument reportedly broke out when Lovell accused Lindore, who had just taken over the shift, of stealing the device. During the altercation, Lindore allegedly pulled two knives from his haversack and attacked Lovell.

The victim sustained seven stab wounds—two to the back, one to the right shoulder, and four to the right hand. He tried to flee but collapsed in a drain just outside the compound.

Emergency Medical Technicians later pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police said three knives and a cutlass were recovered from the guard hut.

Lindore was arrested shortly after the incident and, under caution, reportedly provided investigators with a video- and audio-recorded confession.

Multiple witnesses were also interviewed.
