Police in Region Nine are investigating the alleged murder of 21-year-old John Elliot, a tourist guide of Atta Lodge and resident of Surama Village, North Rupununi, who was fatally stabbed during an Amerindian Heritage celebration early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on September 21, 2025, at Annai Village, where Elliot was reportedly involved in a confrontation with three male suspects. During the altercation, he was allegedly stabbed and later succumbed to his injuries.

Police have identified the main suspect as a 16-year-old school drop-out of Annai Village. Two other suspects, brothers Ronaldo Williams, 20, and Orlando Williams, 18, also of Annai, are being sought. A female police rank who witnessed the incident told investigators she saw the 16-year-old stab Elliot in the chest and has provided a detailed statement.

The teenage suspect was later arrested at the Williams brothers’ residence and taken into custody at the Annai Police Station. Questioned in the presence of his mother, he denied the allegation and instead accused Orlando Williams of delivering the fatal stab.

A medical examination conducted at the Annai District Hospital at 2:00 p.m. confirmed Elliot sustained two stab wounds—one to the left chest and another to the right rib area. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2025.

Police continue efforts to apprehend Ronaldo and Orlando Williams as investigations remain ongoing.
