Police are investigating a wounding incident at Coverden, East Bank Demerara, which left a couple and their 18-month-old granddaughter nursing knife injuries allegedly inflicted by a neighbour during a confrontation in traffic on Friday afternoon.

The victims have been identified as 53-year-old housewife Indira Thomas, her husband William Thomas, a 68-year-old businessman, and their granddaughter. The incident reportedly occurred around 15:30 hrs on October 10, 2025, while the family was in traffic along the East Bank corridor.

The suspect, 68-year-old construction worker Wilfred Aaron, also of Coverden, has since been arrested in connection with the attack.

According to police, the Thomases and the suspect are neighbours who have been embroiled in a longstanding dispute. Investigations revealed that the couple had just collected their granddaughter from a daycare at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, and were returning home when they encountered Aaron in traffic at Land of Canaan.

During the encounter, the suspect reportedly hurled expletives and threatened to kill William Thomas. The businessman exited his vehicle to confront Aaron, who allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked him, inflicting injuries to his abdomen and ear.

The toddler reportedly sustained a wound to her left wrist, while Indira Thomas, who attempted to intervene, received cuts to her elbow, palm, and three fingers on her right hand.

The injured family managed to drive to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they were treated and later discharged.

Police investigations are ongoing.
