Fatal Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of Woman on Essequibo Coast
Police in Regional Division #2 are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that claimed the life of 34-year-old Yolanda John of Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast.
The incident occurred around 19:30 hrs on Wednesday, October 22, along the Elisa public road. Reports indicate that John was a pillion rider on a motorcycle driven by 23-year-old Leroy Prince, also of Dartmouth, when the vehicle collided with a cow on the western side of the road.
Prince told authorities that he attempted to avoid the animal, but the motorcycle still made contact, causing him to lose control. Yolanda John reportedly fell onto the roadway, sustaining severe injuries. She was transported to the Lima Regional Hospital, where she succumbed while receiving medical attention.
A breathalyser test conducted on the motorcyclist showed no presence of alcohol. The motorcycle has been lodged at the Anna Regina Police Station for examination by the licensing and certifying officer. Prince remains in police custody and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
A post-mortem examination, conducted on Thursday, October 23, by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, confirmed that Yolanda John died from multiple injuries consistent with a motor vehicle accident.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
