Residents of Bella Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, are raising serious concerns about a man they say is repeatedly damaging newly constructed roads and stealing materials meant for government works in the area.

According to one villager, the individual- Bholanauth aka Alan- has been interfering with ongoing road upgrades in the backdam community, causing setbacks and sparking frustration among those who rely on the thoroughfare.

The road, which had already received crusher run and loam and was awaiting its final bitumen layer, has reportedly been tampered with. A villager alleged that the man has been back-blading the freshly laid crusher run with a tractor and hauling the material into his yard. They say this has been going on for some time.

Villagers also report that he has been removing various materials from road crews, including wood from pile-driving operations and fuel from equipment left on site. Persons have been complaining of items having gone missing.

On Sunday, Alan was caught on video actively digging up the road materials and transporting them into his yard. According to eyewitnesses, after removing the crusher run, he attempted to disguise the damage by throwing sand and loam over the disturbed area.

Residents further allege that he used a tractor to drag a non-functioning canter, tearing up sections of the roadway in the process.

A villager said the situation is causing unnecessary hardship, as any damage to the road is usually blamed on the government or contractors.
