Defence to make submissions Friday as prosecution expands disclosure in Mohameds extradition matter
The extradition matter involving well-known gold dealers Nazar Mohamed and his son, Azruddin, was called on Monday before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where the prosecution made further disclosure to the defence.
At an earlier hearing this month, the prosecution had already produced several official documents forming part of the United States (U.S.) government’s request for the duo’s extradition.

These included a diplomatic note, certified documents from the U.S. Secretary of State, and duly executed warrants of arrest for both men.
Prosecutors explained that these materials were tendered to authenticate the extradition request and demonstrate that due process had been followed in accordance with the Guyana–U.S. extradition treaty.
During Monday’s session, the prosecution provided additional disclosure to the defence. Further disclosure is scheduled for Friday, when the defence is also expected to make certain submissions in response to the material presented.
Copies of all documents have been handed over to the defence team for examination as the court prepares considers whether a prima facie case has been established to support extradition.
The Mohameds—owners of Mohamed’s Enterprise—remain on $150,000 bail each as the matter progresses.
Magistrate Latchman adjourned the case to November 28, 2025, for report.
The father and son were previously sanctioned by the United States Government for alleged gold smuggling and corruption.
They have since been indicted in a U.S. court on 11 counts of financial crimes, including money laundering and wire and mail fraud.
