Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Oneidge Walrond, today (Thursday, November 27, 2025) made her first appearance at the Regional Security Conference 2025, reaffirming the Government of Guyana’s commitment to a safe and secure country through stronger regional collaboration and innovation in security.

In her address, Minister Walrond underscored the significance of the forum and her own sense of responsibility, noting, “It is my honour to address you for the first time as Minister of Home Affairs at this important Regional Security Conference. I do so with humility and with a profound sense of duty to the people of Guyana.”

Emphasizing that effective security must be grounded in regional realities and frontline experience, the Minister stressed that national security cannot be driven from the capital alone. “Security cannot be commanded solely from Georgetown,” she said, highlighting the critical role of regional leaders, operational commanders and communities in shaping Guyana’s security posture.

She outlined the need for a genuinely national, networked approach to safety and security, “It must be built collaboratively, region by region, community by community, and agency by agency.”

Minister Walrond further highlighted that no single institution can shoulder the task of protecting the nation, “No single agency can secure this country alone; collaboration is non-negotiable.”

Reinforcing the idea that safety is everyone’s business, she added, “Vigilance is now a national responsibility, not merely an operational task for the Joint Services.”

The Minister thanked regional leaders, the security services and intelligence community for their continued service and reiterated the Government’s resolve to work alongside them to protect every community and advance a safer, more secure One Guyana.
