Officials from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) intercepted a significant quantity of illegal drugs during an intelligence-led operation on Thursday near Sandaka Dam, Corentyne, Berbice.
According to CANU, ranks stopped a motorcycle rider and conducted a search, which uncovered a parcel containing 12.1 grams of cocaine. A further sweep of the area led to the discovery of two bulky parcels with an estimated 30 kilograms of cannabis.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to CANU Headquarters along with the seized narcotics. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the source of the drugs and the intended distribution network.
CANU is urging members of the public to report any suspicious drug-related activities to aid its enforcement efforts.
