Regional Divisional Commander of Region Two, Senior Superintendent Khemraj Shivbaran, on Thursday afternoon, led a community outreach at Reliance Backstreet, accompanied by respected community leader Pandit Chandrashekar Sharma.
This visit forms part of the Guyana Police Force’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties and transparency with local communities. Residents took the opportunity to raise concerns, share experiences, and engage directly with the police leadership.

Commander Shivbaran addressed key issues affecting daily life on the Essequibo Coast, stressing the importance of rebuilding trust between the police and the public.
He highlighted the need for community collaboration to tackle crime and traffic challenges and encouraged the timely reporting of incidents. The Commander also updated residents on services available at the Regional Headquarters.
Amid ongoing border tensions and related security concerns, the Commander reassured residents of the police force’s commitment to their safety. He also discussed current recruitment efforts and introduced free computer training programmes at ZARA Computer Centres, aimed at empowering youth with valuable skills.

A major focus of the outreach was the plan to establish a Community Policing Group (CPG) in Reliance, giving residents a more active role in local safety. Juvenile delinquency was also addressed, with emphasis on the need for greater youth engagement and support.
Several pressing community issues were raised, with some addressed on the spot. Commander Shivbaran promised that unresolved matters would be forwarded to the appropriate agencies for further action.
