ERC spreads Christmas joy with annual toy drive across three regions
The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) has kicked off its annual Christmas Toy Distribution, spreading holiday cheer to children across Regions Five, Six, and One as part of its 2025 festive outreach.
The initiative, which the Commission carries out every year to promote goodwill and togetherness, began its first phase on December 1. By the following day, ERC Commissioners were already on the move, travelling into Region One to meet pupils, teachers and share in the early Christmas excitement.
ERC Chairman Shaikh Moeenul Hack led the team, which included Commissioners Chandrowtie Sarran, Deon Dick (Ras Khafra), Pandit Krishn Sharma, Reverend Rodwell Porter, along with CEO Gomin Camacho and other staff members. They visited several schools where they personally handed out toys and interacted with children and teachers.
This year’s distribution covered Hopetown and Bushlot Nursery Schools in Region Five; Leeds Nursery, Leeds Primary and No. 48 Primary in Region Six; and Wauna Nursery and Primary in Region One.
The ERC says the outreach forms part of its wider mandate to encourage ethnic harmony and strengthen relations among Guyanese. By focusing on children during the Christmas season, the Commission hopes to reinforce values of sharing, caring and unity.
According to the ERC, the joy seen on the faces of children from Hopetown to No. 48 Village shows why the exercise remains a priority, as the holiday season continues to bring Guyanese together regardless of background.
The Commission has also confirmed that more toy distribution activities are scheduled throughout the season, with efforts aimed at reaching communities beyond the coast as well.
The ERC is extending warm holiday greetings to all Guyanese and is encouraging citizens to embrace kindness and togetherness as the Christmas period unfolds.
