Despite repeated WIN claims of election victory, PSC says recount was transparent and credible
The Private Sector Commission (PSC) has confirmed that the recount process for the 2025 General and Regional Elections was transparent, professionally conducted, and fully credible, directly contradicting repeated claims by WIN leader Azruddin Mohamed that he won the elections. Mohamed has often told his supporters that the official results were incorrect, but the PSC’s findings show no basis for such assertions.
According to the Commission, the recount was carried out at a single central location and benefitted from consistent presence by party agents throughout the exercise. PSC observers were stationed there around the clock, maintaining 24-hour coverage to monitor every stage of the process. Observers reported that the recount proceeded in an orderly manner, with GECOM staff displaying strong procedural knowledge and frequently clarifying rules for agents who were uncertain about the protocols.
This came after a counting process that the PSC described as transparent and meticulously executed, with Statements of Poll completed accurately and posted publicly. The Commission also commended GECOM’s digital publication of SOPs as a major transparency milestone.
Tabulation across sub-districts, while experiencing minor delays, was never compromised, the PSC said.
Overall, the Commission’s observation confirms that the recount process was credible and conducted in full accordance with established procedures. The PSC’s findings directly rebut ongoing misinformation circulated by the WIN leader, underscoring that claims of victory from that party do not align with what was observed during the recount.
