President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has said the government is actively assessing options for the development of a large-scale rail transit system as part of efforts to modernise Guyana’s transportation network.

The President disclosed on Wednesday that work on the proposed project is advancing, with a feasibility study currently being undertaken by the Ministry of Housing. The initiative is intended to support the creation of a more connected country, allowing communities across Guyana, including those in remote and hinterland regions, to better access economic and social opportunities.

The rail transit system forms part of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic’s commitments outlined in its 2025 Manifesto, aligned with the broader vision for national development.
