Saudi loan to fund major housing infrastructure works at Leonora East
Housing infrastructure works at Leonora East on the West Coast of Demerara are set to be carried out using financing from the Saudi Fund for Development, as the government moves to improve roads and drainage in the growing housing area.
According to information released by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Guyana has received financing under a Saudi Fund loan to support infrastructure development works for the housing sector. Part of the proceeds from that loan will be used specifically for works at Leonora East, Region Three.
The scope of the project includes the construction of fair-weather roads, reinforced concrete (RC) drains, HDPE culverts, RC double-barrel box culverts and RC bridges, along with the installation of pipework, road signs and thermoplastic road markings. The works are divided into ten lots, covering multiple sections of the housing area.
The infrastructure programme is aimed at improving access and drainage within the development, a key requirement as housing schemes continue to expand along the West Coast Demerara corridor.
The CH&PA has indicated that the delivery and construction period for the works is set at 240 days per lot, signalling the scale of the undertaking and the level of investment being channelled into housing-related infrastructure.
