Arson suspected as Angoy’s Avenue house goes up in flames
Arson is suspected after a house at Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, was destroyed by fire on Sunday afternoon.
In an interview with reporters, Rasheed Sinclair, a farmer who occupies the building owned by his mother, Florette Sinclair, at Levi Dam, Mount Sinai, disclosed that he was a short distance away when alerted about the blaze around 13:00.
He said that, receiving the devastating news, he rushed to the scene only to find the one-bedroom wooden house engulfed in flames.
The New Amsterdam Fire Station responded promptly.
Two weeks earlier, the house had been rented to someone who had since left to stay with a relative.
He noted that within those two weeks they had left, and the place was left vacant and cleaned up as he prepared to farm the yard and plant red beans.
He suspects arson, stating that someone was involved with the fire.
Divisional Fire Officer Clive McDonald confirmed that the house had no electricity. He stated that the fire was intentionally set.
