Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn has confirmed that there is no verified intelligence suggesting the presence of the Venezuelan-based gang, Tren de Aragua, in Guyana.

Benn was responding to questions raised by Opposition Member of Parliament Tabitha Sarabo-Halley during Thursday’s 103rd Sitting of the Twelfth Parliament.

She had inquired about national security threats in light of the ongoing migration influx from neighbouring Venezuela.

He noted, however, that cross-border criminal activity remains a possibility, adding, “The Ministry and Joint Services remain vigilant for any indicators of cross-border infiltration. Should any credible intelligence arise, appropriate action will be taken.”

Benn’s assurance came as new figures presented in the National Assembly showed that over 2,400 Venezuelan migrants have been entering Guyana monthly between January 2024 and April 20, 2025.

Region One (Barima-Waini) continues to experience the highest influx, with the border community of Morawhanna recording 452 arrivals during the period.

Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), via the ports of Eteringbang and Bartica, registered the largest number overall, with 1,242 entries. Lethem in Region Nine saw 440 arrivals, while Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), specifically through Charity, recorded 190.

Georgetown, Region Four, registered 79 migrants. No arrivals were reported in Regions Three, Five, Six, Eight, or Ten during the reporting period.

From October 1, 2018, to November 30, 2024, a total of 23,853 Venezuelan migrants were officially registered in Guyana. Registration was conducted either through field outreach exercises by immigration officers referred to as “Roven” or at official ports of entry.

Of that number, 8,696 migrants were registered during Roven outreaches. Region One accounted for 7,507 of those, followed by Region Seven with 1,101 and Region Eight with 65. No Roven-based registrations were recorded in Regions Two, Three, Five, Six, Nine, or 10. Region Four recorded 23.

The remaining 15,157 migrants were processed at official ports of entry. Region Seven again featured prominently with 3,767, closely followed by Region One with 3,714. Region Two accounted for 3,426, Region Nine 1,772, and Region Four 1,613. Region Three saw 865 port-of-entry registrations.

There were no reported entries through ports in Regions Five, Six, Eight, or 10.
