Minister from the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Priyah Manickchand has reported steady progress in ongoing garbage collection efforts across several constituencies in Georgetown and surrounding communities.

Minister Manicjchand shared an update on Thursday evening via her official social media page, noting that waste collection activities were being actively carried out, with multiple areas already completed.

In Constituency 15, garbage collection was completed in Agricola, Evan’s Phillips Park, Rome and McDoom. The Ministry also confirmed completion of works from the Shopping Plaza through Roxanne Burnham Gardens to Shirley Field.

In Constituency 12, cleanup operations were completed in Guyhoc Park, East La Penitence and the Go Slow area.

Further updates from the Georgetown Waste Solutions (GWS) contractor indicated that collection was completed in Constituency 11, covering Alexander Village, Laing Avenue, Independence Boulevard, Castello Housing Scheme, Jeebo Land and East La Penitence.

The Ministry noted that garbage collection in North East La Penitence is approximately 90 percent complete. However, no work was carried out along Middle Road La Penitence and River View on Thursday. The contractor has since assured that these areas will be prioritised and addressed first thing Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the Mayor and City Council (MCC) reported that garbage collection has been completed in Kitty and Cummings Lodge.

The Ministry said it continues to monitor the exercise and is working with contractors and municipal authorities to ensure timely completion of outstanding areas.
