A 25-year-old man of Grove, East Bank Demerara, has died following a traffic accident on the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge earlier today.
The deceased has been identified as Scott Dorwat.
Preliminary information indicates that the accident involved a truck travelling on the bridge when the driver experienced mechanical difficulties while ascending the incline. As the vehicle moved uphill, the truck reportedly lost holding power, after which it began to roll.
While descending the slope, the driver attempted to control the vehicle and avoid vehicles behind him but was unable to do so, resulting in the truck damaging several vehicles and injuring persons.
Dorwat sustained fatal injuries during the incident, while another individual was left in critical condition.
Traffic on the bridge was disrupted following the accident as emergency responders and police carried out their investigations.
