Arrest warrant issued for Azruddin Mohamed after late arrival at court
An arrest warrant was issued Monday morning for Azruddin Mohamed after he failed to appear on time at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where extradition proceedings involving him and his father, Nazar Mohamed, are ongoing.
Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman issued the warrant at about 9:05 a.m., noting that concerns had repeatedly been raised about Mohamed’s tardiness in attending court.
Up to that time, Mohamed had not yet arrived, though members of his defence team and prosecutors were present in court. The magistrate stressed that the matter was not the first instance of lateness.
“As it relates to Azruddin Mohamed, he is very disrespectful,” Magistrate Latchman said as the warrant was issued.
Mohamed later arrived at the court after the warrant had already been executed. Reports indicate he has been late on several occasions since the extradition case began.
He remains in custody following the issuance of the arrest warrant. After arriving, Mohamed again shouted claims of “political persecution” in relation to the proceedings.
