Port Kaituma Hospital gets upgraded operating theatre, recovery suite

Residents of Port Kaituma and surrounding communities are expected to benefit from improved surgical care following the refurbishment of the operating theatre and recovery suite at the Port Kaituma Hospital.

Minister of Health, Frank Anthony, highlighted the upgraded facility during a recent visit, describing it as a major enhancement to healthcare delivery in the region.

“We have just completed a project of refurbishing the area for the operating theater,” the minister said while touring the facility.

According to Dr Anthony, the upgraded suite includes a modern operating theatre equipped to handle a wide range of general surgical procedures.

“So we have a very modern operating theater here. You have the operating table, the anesthetic machine. You have nice lights that allows us to do almost all the types of general surgery,” he explained.

The minister noted too that the facility has been outfitted with the necessary surgical instruments and sterile supply systems to support operations.

He also pointed to the addition of a dedicated recovery room where patients will be monitored after surgery.

“Once patients are operated upon, they’ll be brought here and they’ll be monitored so we can monitor their recovery. So this is called the recovery room,” Dr Anthony said.

He added, “This is a very complete suite that has been put in so that we can now do surgical interventions here at the Port Kaituma Hospital.”

The upgrade is expected to expand access to surgical services in Region One while reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for certain medical procedures.
