A 22-year-old man already on remand for an attempted murder charge has now been accused of killing a Sophia taxi driver during a shooting that also left a teenager injured.
Hoesela Harris appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Monday, where he was formally charged with the murder of Xavier Fraser. The charge alleges that Harris unlawfully killed Fraser on December 21, 2025, at Plum Park, Sophia, Georgetown.
As the offence is indictable, Harris was not required to enter a plea. He was remanded to prison and is expected to return to court on July 15, 2026, when prosecutors are scheduled to disclose statements and other evidence to the defence.
Fraser, 27, a taxi driver and father of two from Plum Park, lost his life during a shooting at Mercy Wing, Plum Park, on the night of December 21, 2025.
Police investigations indicated that the incident occurred at approximately 10:36 p.m. Officers reported that Fraser was at the location when he sustained gunshot injuries. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival.
A second victim, a 19-year-old resident of Plum Park, was also wounded during the attack. The teenager was admitted to hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.
Following the shooting, Fraser’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination later determined that he died from a gunshot wound to the head.
At the time, investigators were examining CCTV footage from the area as part of efforts to establish a motive for the attack and identify those responsible.
Harris remains behind bars as the murder case continues through the judicial system.
