Two women were on Tuesday sentenced after pleading guilty to charges of Unlawful Wounding and Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.
The defendants, 19-year-old Terizita Parks of Bonfim, Brazil and Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, and 26-year-old Camille James of Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, were jointly charged with Unlawful Wounding and Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm.
The offences were laid contrary to Sections 30(b) and 30(a), respectively, of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:02.
The pair appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, where the charges were read to them separately. Both women pleaded guilty to the offences.
For the offence of Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm, each woman was fined $30,000, with an alternative of three months’ imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
They were also each sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for the offence of Unlawful Wounding.
