The Government of Guyana is on course to eliminate the housing backlog in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) by the end of 2027, as investments continue in new housing developments and supporting infrastructure across the region.
President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali made the announcement during a recent social media address, where he updated the nation on the government’s progress in addressing housing demand.
According to the president, Region 10 recorded a housing backlog of 3,398 applications as of December 2025.
He disclosed that 2,314 house lots are currently available for allocation, leaving an estimated 1,274 additional lots to be developed to fully meet the remaining demand.
“We are now designing and building infrastructure in various areas in Region 10, and we are confident that by the end of 2027, we’ll be able to clear that backlog,” the president stated.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader national housing programme aimed at expanding access to homeownership and ensuring eligible Guyanese families can benefit from house lot allocations.
