An 18-year-old Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD) resident has been granted $600,000 bail after being charged over a road accident that claimed the life of another teenager earlier this month.
Eric Pross appeared before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court, where he was charged with causing the death of 18-year-old Zahair Khan by dangerous driving.
Pross was not required to enter a plea to the charge.
The court granted him bail subject to several conditions, including surrendering his passport to the Sparendaam Police Station and reporting to the station every Monday until the matter is concluded.
He is scheduled to return to court on October 2, 2026.
The charge arose from a collision along Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, on Saturday, August 15, which left both Pross and Khan injured.
The teenagers were reportedly travelling in the same vehicle when the crash occurred.
The vehicle was allegedly being driven at a high rate of speed along the roadway before it overturned several times.
Pross was reportedly behind the wheel at the time of the collision.
Following the accident, both teenagers were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for medical treatment.
Khan, however, later succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash.
