Mako Mining targets 2028 gold production at Eagle Mountain

Mako Mining Corp. is aiming to begin gold production at its Eagle Mountain Gold Project by the end of 2028, following the signing of a Mineral Agreement with the Government of Guyana.

Construction of the project is expected to get underway by the third quarter of 2027, although the start of production remains subject to the necessary regulatory and environmental approvals. Preparatory work has already begun.

The agreement was signed on Thursday through the Ministry of Natural Resources and involves Mako Mining and its wholly owned subsidiary, Stronghold Guyana Inc.

Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat signed on behalf of the government, while Chief Executive Officer Akiba Leisman and President Steve Parsons represented Mako Mining. Officials from the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) were also present.

The Mineral Agreement sets out the legal, fiscal and operational conditions under which the Eagle Mountain development will move forward.

According to the Ministry, the project is expected to provide jobs and opportunities for training and skills development, while allowing qualified Guyanese contractors, suppliers and service providers to participate.

Mako Mining has operated in Guyana for more than a decade.

The agreement also includes provisions covering environmental management, community development and social programmes.

“The signing of the Mineral Agreement represents an important milestone in advancing the development of the Eagle Mountain gold resource and reflects the government’s continued commitment to facilitating responsible investment in Guyana’s mining sector,” the Ministry stated.
