Overall savings deposits, which include deposits from individuals and other customers, rose by 11.2 per cent to $486.2 billion.

The increase formed part of a broader expansion in deposits and money circulating within the economy during the review period.

According to the report, Guyana’s money supply expanded by 7.3 per cent to $1.459 trillion at the end of June when compared with the end of 2025.

Narrow money grew by 5.2 per cent to $931.6 billion, while quasi money, which includes savings and time deposits, increased by 11.3 per cent to $527.8 billion.

“The expansion was driven by an increase in savings and time deposits,” the report stated.

Time deposits also climbed during the period, increasing by 12.2 per cent to $41.5 billion. The report said time deposits held by business enterprises grew by 16.5 per cent, while those belonging to individual customers increased by 8.5 per cent.

The report further showed that currency in circulation increased by 7.1 per cent, while demand deposits grew by 4.7 per cent during the first half of the year.

The growth in savings occurred alongside increased lending by the banking sector. Private-sector credit rose by 11.5 per cent to $592.8 billion, while real estate mortgages expanded by 21.2 per cent to $224.7 billion. Household lending also increased by 14.6 per cent to $75.8 billion.
