WIN MP Andre Lewis resigns amid probe into sexual allegations

We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) parliamentarian Dr. Andre Lewis has resigned from the National Assembly as police investigate rape allegations against him.

In a letter to Speaker of the National Assembly Manzoor Nadir, Lewis said his resignation would take effect upon receipt. He linked his departure to the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing investigation, while stressing that stepping down should not be viewed as an admission of wrongdoing or a finding of guilt.

“Given the seriousness of the matter and the responsibilities attached to public office, I believe that resigning from the National Assembly is the appropriate course of action while the relevant processes are ongoing,” Lewis wrote.

This publication understands that Lewis was arrested and questioned at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station before being released.

WIN Leader Azruddin Mohamed, who is also the party’s Representative of the List, had separately notified the Speaker of the allegations.

Lewis said he remained committed to due process and to allowing the authorities to carry out their investigation.

A first-time opposition MP, Lewis entered Parliament following the 2025 elections.
