From local dishes to live cooking demonstrations, Lake Mainstay in Region Two will host a celebration of Guyana’s food and farmers this Friday, October 16, as the Ministry of Agriculture teams up with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for World Food Day 2026.
The exhibition and open day will run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., giving visitors an opportunity to explore farmers’ exhibits, enjoy local cuisine and take in competitions. Informative displays from the Ministry’s agencies will also form part of the activities, while the official ceremony is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Under the theme “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow,” the event will showcase Guyana’s agriculture and the people whose work helps put food on the nation’s tables.
Families and friends are being encouraged to make the trip, support local farmers and discover more about the foods produced right here at home.
“Come out, support our farmers, celebrate our local food, and discover what Guyana’s agriculture has to offer,” the Ministry announced.
