Two 19-year-old men from Corentyne, Berbice, have been remanded to prison after appearing before the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court to answer charges relating to the possession of a firearm, ammunition and suspected narcotics.

The accused have been identified as David Ramphal, called “Tampoo,” of Belvedere, Corentyne, and Dedesh Naris of Albion Front, Corentyne. Both appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias, where the charges were read to them.

Police arrested the men on October 12, 2026, and subsequently charged them with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a firearm without a licence, and possession of ammunition without a licence.

The charges stem from a police operation conducted at Number One Road, Corentyne, where ranks reportedly intercepted four men travelling on two motorcycles. One of the motorcycles bore registration number CS 7869, while the other was unregistered.

A subsequent search allegedly led to the discovery of a 12-gauge shotgun, 18 matching cartridges, and 15 small zip-lock bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The suspected narcotics were weighed and reportedly amounted to 25.3 grammes.

Ramphal and Naris were remanded to prison and are expected to return to court for further proceedings.
