A representative from Mae’s Schools has dismissed reports of a second fire at its Subryanville location, calling the claims false and misleading.

According to the representative, the rumors, circulated early Tuesday morning, sparked panic among students and some parents. This led to a brief evacuation of students from the grounds where they are currently housed.

The confusion, the school explained, stemmed from a routine power issue. Due to a low voltage issue attributed to Guyana Power and Light (GPL), the school was forced to temporarily shut down its air conditioning units. As a precaution, students were taken outside.

“There was no smoke, no fire, and certainly no emergency,” the official told this media house. “It’s unfortunate that an unverified report by a parent triggered the panic. We wish media houses would confirm facts before publishing.”

Earlier, a parent told another media outlet that smoke was seen coming from a newly renovated building, prompting reports of an evacuation. However, the school has since clarified that no newly renovated building was involved and that there was no cause for alarm.

This incident comes just months after a devastating fire in March that destroyed the primary section of Mae’s School and partially damaged its secondary wing, affecting around 1,100 students.

That blaze, which broke out around 8:00 hrs on March 6, caused major disruptions and forced the school to quickly seek temporary accommodations.

Since then, Mae’s has been working closely with the Ministry of Education to ensure students continue learning. Temporary accommodations now include air-conditioned tents on the school’s grounds, while plans are underway to construct a prefabricated building for longer-term use.

Despite the challenges, the administration says it remains focused on recovery and continuity
