Construction of 1,800 metres of reinforced concrete roads in the Cummings Lodge Housing Scheme is 75 per cent complete, with the works set to provide residents with direct access to the Aubrey Barker four-lane highway.

The Ministry of Housing, in an October 26 release, said Minister Collin Croal recently visited the Region Four scheme to inspect the project. His visit followed commitments made during a community outreach in July.

Residents have mainly relied on Red Road, ‘E’ Field, Sophia, to enter and leave the developing housing scheme. The new connection is expected to shorten journeys and improve access for families already living there, as well as persons constructing their homes.

Through the Aubrey Barker Highway, residents will be able to connect to the Ogle-Eccles, Mandela-Eccles and Heroes highways, providing additional routes to Georgetown, the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara.

The network also offers access to Region Three via the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge.

The ministry said the road expansion is expected to make daily travel safer and more convenient as the community continues to develop.
