The University of Guyana (UG) has reported an unprecedented surge in interest following the launch of Government-funded tuition, with over 20,000 applications initiated during the first month of the 2025/2026 application cycle.

The online application process, which opened on April 1 and closed on May 16, 2025, resulted in the institution’s highest number of applicants to date. Many of UG’s most competitive programmes have already been oversubscribed by several hundred students.

In response to numerous requests from prospective students and other stakeholders, the University announced that it will temporarily reopen its applications portal from Friday, May 30, to midnight on Monday, June 2, 2025.

However, only a limited number of programmes with available space will be accessible during this brief reopening. Applicants interested in the Turkeyen Campus can check available programmes at: https://turkeyenonline.uog.edu.gy/…/application/login.php

For the Berbice Campus, available programmes can be viewed at: https://tainonline.uog.edu.gy/…/application/login.php

UG has urged applicants to ensure that their submissions are fully completed, as a significant number of applications are initiated but remain incomplete.

Due to the high volume of applications, successful candidates will only have two weeks to accept their offers once responses begin rolling out from the second week of June through August 2025.

Orientation for new students is scheduled to take place around August 25, 2025. Continuing students can apply between June 16 and August 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, CSEC students writing exams this year were encouraged to apply pending results and to authorise CXC to send results directly to UG to avoid delays. Some programmes will allow provisional acceptance while awaiting final grades.

The University reminded all students to monitor the official UG website, Student Records Management System (SRMS), and other authorised communication channels for updates, notices, and instructions.

More details on available programmes, admission requirements, and the application process are available at: https://uog.edu.gy/
